Nakamichi 581 Cassette Deck
One of the most attractive tape decks that I ever did see. I toiled long and hard about wether or not to get rid of it, but in the end, I got a good offer and knew that I would be lucky to ever play 5 cassettes ever again in my life. I have played one since then, so I think the logic was sound. And it's a LARGE piece. Over 19" wide if my memory serves me correctly, so it wasn't very stand friendly. Still, gorgeous deck, and a great performer (3-Head, 4-track etc)... in hindsight, I would have liked to have kept it despite it's obvious obsolescence.
As I said in my last blog, I got a winfall for the SX-950 and this Nak deck was part of it. There was also another Pioneer (SX-450) receiver, a fairly unusual turntable that will be the subject of the next blog, and $200 cash.
Somebody wanted this deck almost as much as people wanted the 950 though, so I got a pair of Dynaco A25's and $100 for this deck, and to be honest, I couldn't jump fast enough. He knew he was "overpaying" slightly for the deck, but he really wanted it and was trying to outbid another guy. Needless to say, he won.
So if you're keeping track...
Pioneer SX-950 Out
Nak tape deck / Pioneer SX-450 Receiver / Unusual turntable / $200 cash
After the Nak flip, that's...
Dynaco A25's / Pioneer SX-450 Receiver / Unusual turntable / $300 cash
