Argos Trapezoidal Speakers Restoration

Argos Trapezoidal Speakers Restoration

I have to admit, the "original" version of these was one of the ugliest sets of speakers I have ever seen. Wrapped in bad vinyl... horrid speaker grille cloth... they really were an eye sore. But those boxes... maybe they COULD look cool.

Removing the front baffle revealed that the grille cloth was actually CHOSEN by someone after market. Wow. :) In the above photo, you can see the original cloth which wasn't nearly as hideous.

Drivers in these speakers vary because Argos just made boxes for restaurants etc in the late 50s and early 60s. The drivers in this set were full range 8" drivers from a company named R&A Higher Fidelity, as you can see in the photo. Beautiful driver. Not a ton of thump, but great clarity and separation. Excellent for Jazz and Classical - especially with a powered subwoofer with a throughput crossover that traps whatever frequencies it's letting the sub play.

Pulled all of the laminate off the outside of the cabinets... sanded off all of the glue and gave them a mild, oil soaping before final finish.

On a stand here for photo purposes but these ended up mounted in the corners of the ceiling in a rig, as originally intended. They look and sound great.
